This is a review of the 42″ Panasonic Viera TC-P42X1 Plasma TV. It’s an awesome 720p display and has ZERO visual lag. The display’s built-in speakers have audio lad, but connecting A/V equipment to external speakers eliminates this problem. So this display is perfect for music games such as beatmaniaiidx, dancedancerevolution, etc. I play two IIDX songs to demonstrate. The timing has not been adjusted at all in the game. Yes, my voice is deep, but it’s not THAT deep. Cheap camera microphones just do that.

It’s on 4:3 mode so the game isn’t stretched.
what visual setting do you have the tv on? I have the same model but urs look better.
Nice video man im fixing to pick up a Panasonic VIERA 42″ 720p & get into some Super SF 4 :]
beatmaniaIIDX. It’s Konami’s “DJ simulation” music game series. It’s a Japanese game.
what the hell is this game xD
Ghosting/Image retention and phosphor lag are issues yet to be solved..but I take that any day over the LCD motionlag. I exchanged my plasma with my parents 2009 Philips LCD (My is a 2008 Panasonic PX80.) just to try it out..sure it’s nice as a monitor but movies are not fun to watch, neither is console games..motionblur and excessive sharpness just doesn’t fit..not to mention that LCD’s are superbright..which is annoying in a dark room.
SCREEN BURN IS NOLONGER AN ISSUE FOR PLASMA I feel sorry for people who steer away from superior picture quality for something that is not likely to happen. I challenge you to find anyone who has seen permanent damage on the newer plasma panels?
Exactly. I’ve played a ton of beatmaniaIIDX on this thing for the past 6 months. By brother has been playing a ton of Halo and other FPS games with static images. There is absolutely NO burn-in whatsoever.
Amazing how some people don’t read up on stuff before posting. Burn ins are NOT common anymore, ghosting is but it goes away fast.
Amazing how everyone fails to see that Plasma TV’s aren’t made for gaming.
Still images on the screen such as maps, HUD’s, ammo / health counters, etc. will be “burned” on the screen.
LCD and LED Tv’s are made for gaming
you should have got a ps3 rather than a 360. but 360 is still good.
Yea dude im about to buy this tv mainly for ps3 i wish you showed what 360 looked like
hi there, wats the best picture settings for this tv? as in what level of brightness and contrast would be best, its either too bright or too low in my house.
Lifespan of OLED TV’s are still pretty poor, specially the blue color.
I’d go with the Plasma or LCD, in the future, of course, the OLED is gonna be the standard for TV’s.
i got the same tv. i always prefer the picture of a plasma over lcd. maybe the high end lcds compare but i hate how the backlight of lcds affect the picture.
It looks okay, but the graphics look sort of stretched, and the notes are a whole lot smaller. I believe I play better with 4:3 mode, but I haven’t fully tested the differences.
how does it look when you have 16:9 mode and Arcade Settings (showing both 1st player and 2nd player like the AC)
Man gotta upgrade to ps3 ; – p love your tv though awesome!
what about hdmi cables and i think u are running 480p but would u know if hdmi gives lag
plasma save a few thousand
how did you get the sides to be black (the remaining of the screen), because mine is grayish. Thanks
Ah thanks!! ^^ I’m torn between getting a newer plasma or an OLED t.v. as my next set…
I used a Y cable with RCA Audio inputs on one end and a headphone input on the other.
I use Component cables, and there is no visual lag. There is, however, audio lag, and you need lagless external speakers to eliminate it. Connecting PC speakers with a Y-cable works flawlessly.
how did you hook up your speakers to the TV? im getting this TV delivered soon and im wondering if my klipsch 2.1 will work on this tv
